SESSIONAL COUNSELLOR

Purpose of the Role:

To provide professional counselling to children and young people within an office based

environment. To have a passion for supporting their emotional wellbeing and mental health.

The role involves working collaboratively with fellow self-employed counsellors and

 management to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality counselling services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one counselling to children and young people, typically late afternoon and early evenings. 

  • Identify, assess, and manage risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with legal and ethical requirements, in consultation with All Things Counselling lead team.

  • Maintain accurate electronic records of counselling sessions and client progress.  

  • Attend supervision and peer supervision. 

  • Create a safe, supportive, and confidential space for Children and Young People 

Essential Criteria:

  •  Professional qualification in counselling or psychotherapy (minimum Level 4 / Level 7 Scotland, or Masters) or equivalent as regulated by the RQF or SCQF and from a recognised validating organisation (e.g., CPCAB).

  •  Accredited with, or working towards accreditation with, BACP, IACP, or NCPS, with full accreditation to be achieved within one year of starting.

  •  Registered member with BACP, IACP, or NCPS.

  •  Minimum of 100 hours post-qualification clinically supervised practice in counselling children and young people up to age 18.

  • Self Employed

Or:

  •  Minimum of 100 hours post-qualification experience working with adults and successful completion of Level 5 CPCAB Diploma in Counselling Children & Young People similar. 

  •  Understanding of child development and awareness of issues impacting young people.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  •  Experience working in a school or educational setting.

  •  Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices.

Monday - Friday: 9.00am – 4.30pm

Tuesday: 5-9pm
Wednesday: 5-9pm

Thursday: 5-9pm

Counselling sessions are by appointment only.
